Cabinets .. three ways

There are three ways to go about cabinets;

1. Off the Shelf - standard sizes, modular, options++. Our Calgary go-to is good ol’ IKEA - they look great and do a great job. Off the shelf is smart for straightforward layouts, tighter budgets, and shorter timelines.

2. Semi-Custom - think catalogue-based choices. More flexibility, but not starting from scratch. Choose from a manufacturer’s range of sizes, styles, finishes, materials, and storage options. A lovely middle ground between budget, quality, design flexibility, and production time. In Calgary, Legacy Kitchens is a great place to see what’s possible.

3. Custom - built specifically for that one home, they don’t exist anywhere else! Clients have freedom with dimensions, materials, finishes, details, and architectural conditions - and a higher price point and longer lead time.

I stumbled on a cool hybrid version too. It's called … hybrid. Carpenters combine standard boxes (IKEA boxes) with custom fronts! You get a custom look on an easier budget. Kitch is a great example of this process.

Another fun niche rabbit hole is called bench built – it’s more like fine furniture making. One artisan builds each piece start to finish on their workbench - handmade, carefully selected materials, uber custom finishes.

Most of us know our category already - easy. The tricky part is all those gorgeous colours!
